How did 55-PLUS get started?
Statement of Faith
We believe the 66 canonical books of the Bible are the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
We believe that Jesus came in the flesh born of a virgin: fully God and fully man.
We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God.
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, physically rose from the dead, and that He brings salvation and forgiveness to all who truly believe in Him. We believe that this salvation is a gift we receive through faith and it cannot be earned by any human effort.
We believe that all who, by faith, receive the Lord Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness of sin are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God.
We believe that God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives which is to worship God, fulfill our role in the church and serve the community in which we live.
We believe that our eternal destination of either Heaven or Hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.
In October 1989, Pastor Melin invited 5 seniors to his office to ask their help in starting a senior program. Finally on January 12, 1990, our first 55-PLUS meeting was held with about 15 seniors present. For a considerable length of time Pastor Melin led our weekly meetings, playing the piano for our time of singing and bring us an inspiring message. We enjoyed it, and our attendance grew.

What is our present situation?
We operate "on our own"
  • Using Guest Speakers
  • In-house Pianists
  • Planning Committee for special events and field-trips
  • We enjoy praying together, sharing testimonies together, eating together, and(very importantly) laughtingtogether!
We care for our own members and for others too:
We mail out greeting cards to members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, plus encouragement and get well cards to those with special needs.
We have collected funds to help missionaries and Option 360.
We strive to be self-supporting:
Rather than using church funds, we try to take care of our own expenses through free will offerings.

We provide varied social opportunities:
Older ones often feel lonely. By planning holiday dinners, picnics and outings, we promote frienship and closeness within our group.
We Believe . . .
That age is a state of mind
That i you are still alive, your mission on earth is still unfinished!
That God's Word is true when it says,
"They shall still bring forth fruit in old age" (Psalm 92:14)
Our Group Continues
We continue to thrive in a spirit of love and with a deep appreciation of God's grace in our lives. Yes, we are "retired" - but we are still fevent in our dedication to the Lord. Our meetings vary greatly, but normally include a time for sharing . . . a time for prayer . . . a time for singing praises to the Lord. And, of course, we usually always begin our meetings with a delightful continental breakfast.
Special Occations
To celebrate certain holiday seasons, such as Resurrection Sunday and Thanksgiving, we have a special luncheon with beautifully decorated tables to add to the festive feeling.
